Hidden History
Not every story is told in the main exhibits.
Hidden History reveals the discoveries that reshaped our understanding of the house—and the secrets that remained buried for decades.

Restoration Discoveries
During early restoration efforts, Robert Peel began exploring the lower levels of the house, areas that had long been closed off and largely forgotten.
What he uncovered suggested a very different past. Evidence of a concealed speakeasy emerged, along with numerous bottles tucked away out of sight.
Deeper within the structure, a hidden vault was discovered containing cash, bonds, and a collection of jewelry that had remained untouched for years.

These findings did more than reveal a hidden chapter of the house’s past—they helped secure its future.
What was once hidden ultimately helped make it possible to restore and share the house as it exists today.
